RCMP have laid first-degree murder charges against a 20-year-old man in the deaths of two people in Ethelbert in January.

Police hadn’t previously identified the victims. They are now saying the deceased are Elsie Steppa, 81, and Clarence Thornton, 50. Steppa’s body was found inside her home and Thornton’s body was found outside on January 19, 2013.

Payton Saari of Ethelbert is facing two counts of first-degree murder. Police said he knew both of the deceased.

Saari is in custody and will make his first court appearance on May 6.
