The 47th edition of Folklorama is about to begin.
It’s the biggest and longest running multicultural festival of its kind worldwide.
This year, Folklorama will feature 45 different pavilions during the two-week event.
“Every one of the 45 pavilions every year are looking for new things that they can incorporate, whether it’s in their menu, their show, or their cultural display,” said Debra Zoerb, Folklorama executive director.
However, the one thing that never changes is the hard work necessary to make it happen.
Each year about 20,000 volunteers put their heart and soul into making Folklorama a success.
"When you go to the pavilions, everyone you’re encountering, whether it’s a person selling you a ticket at the door, serving you food, getting a drink at the bar, all of those folks are volunteers,” Zoerb said.
Lion Dancer, Jeremie Yuen, said the payoff can be seen on the faces of the people he's able to entertain.
“It'smagic. It's pure magic,” he said.
Folklorama runs July 31 through to August 13.
The kickoff is Saturday, July 23 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Memorial Park across from the Manitoba Legislature.
