He's the candidate who tried, tried and tried again.
Now, Liberal Terry Duguid has won his long-sought seat of Winnipeg South.
"Wow," said Duguid as he stepped onto the podium at Liberal headquarters in Winnipeg South. "What a night for Canada."
The MP-elect addressed a few hundred supporters at the old Zellers store in Fort Richmond Monday night.
Fourth time's a charm for the longtime Liberal, who joked about his three failed federal runs in the past and thanked supporters for standing by him in his 30 plus years in politics.
Duguid vowed to take the environment off the backburner and said Canada has been a laughing stock in climate change under the Conservative government.
Duguid captured about 3,000 more votes over Conservative Gordon Giesbrecht, who has yet to comment.
Other candidates in the riding this election included Green Party’s Adam Smith and New Democrat Brianne Goertzen.
In the last election, Duguid lost to Conservative incumbent Rod Bruinooge by more than 8,500 votes.
Bruinooge held the seat since 2006, and announced his retirement in 2015.
