Family and friends of a missing Winnipeg man are holding onto hope. On Friday, they launched their own search party.

Dozens gathered at the Hindu Society of Manitoba’s office on St. Anne’s Road to pick up missing persons posters, and maps of neighbourhoods where friends believe Herin Patel could be.

The 31-year-old is convenience store employee and was last seen Sunday in the East Kilodonan neighbourhood.

At the time he was wearing a white T-shirt, black pants and black shoes and driving a red Hyundai Elantra with the license plate KUSUM.

His wife, Hilpa Patel, said it is not like her husband to not keep in touch with her about his whereabouts.

Friday’s search party received some help from a woman who knows all too well about searching for loved ones.

Connie Muscat, a friend of Thelma Krull, who disappeared a year ago, helped friends and family organize their efforts.

Muscat understands searches can lead to clues, or not, but they are also a welcome distraction for the worry that comes with waiting for news of your loved one’s whereabouts.

“You need to keep busy, so your mind is busy and so you’re physically busy,” Muscat said. “So you feel you’re making headway on finding your family member.”

A search team plans to meet at 999 St. Anne’s Road on Saturday as well, at 10 a.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m.
