A health issue has sidelined a Manitoba cabinet minister who is already mulling retirement.
Premier Greg Selinger said Tourism Minister Ron Lemieux had a health issue that prevented him from returning home from out of the country until recently.
Lemieux "wasn't able to travel under doctor's orders," Selinger said Monday.
Lemieux has not been in the legislature since the spring sitting started last Wednesday.
The 65-year-old cabinet minister had already said he was contemplating whether to run for re-election in his Dawson Trail constituency.
Lemieux’s name could be added to an already growing list of high-profile members who have decided not to seek re-election, including Justice Minister Gord Mackintosh and former finance minister Jennifer Howard.
"He's indicated to me that he had an operation in the last two weeks and he's seeing what the status of that is right now. It's not life-threatening or anything,” Selinger said.
