Winnipeg police officers are already patrolling transit buses.

Deputy Chief Dave Thorne told the police board while the program to place members on board is still a work in progress, members have already been riding the bus.

John Callahan, the president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, says he was informed an unruly passenger was removed Friday morning from a city bus by a plain clothes officer.

Callahan says he wants to see a model that uses both uniform and plain clothes cops because violent incidents against drivers has increased over recent years.

The program is estimated to cost $100,000.
