The Winnipeg Jets announced that the team’s AHL franchise will be leaving St. John’s and returning to Winnipeg for at least one season.
Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff made the announcement during a conference call Thursday afternoon.
What the team name will be still has to be determined.
This will be the second time Winnipeg has played host to an AHL franchise.
The Manitoba Moose played 15 seasons in Winnipeg before the return of the Jets.
The move to bring back the AHL was done based on logistics for the Jets and AHL team, according to Cheveldayoff.
