A judge has denied bail to a Manitoba man accused of sending letter bombs to his ex-wife and two lawyers in Winnipeg.
Guido Amsel, 49, is facing more than a dozen charges, including three counts of attempted murder.
The string of incidents began on July 3, 2015 when a device exploded at Petersen King law office, seriously injuring lawyer Maria Mitousis.
Mitousis lost her right hand and suffered severe upper body injuries. She worked as a lawyer for Amsel’s ex-wife.
Two other bombs were safely disposed of by police.
Amsel will remain in custody until his trial.
Provincial court Judge Heather Pullan's decision follows three days of evidence presented at Amsel's bail hearing, which cannot be reported due to a publication ban.
Martin Glazer, the lawyer representing Amsel, said he believes the judge made errors in her decision and he plans to file an appeal with the Court of Queen’s Bench on behalf of his client.
A date for Amsel's trial has not been set.
