The jury in the murder trial for the death of Candace Derksen watched a police interrogation video of Mark Edward Grant after he was arrested in May 2007.

Grant faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Derksen.

In the video shown in court Wednesday, Grant is shown sitting in an interview with his arms crossed, leaning back on a chair.

He tells officers he never met Derksen and says in the video he had nothing to do with her murder.

The video shows officers speaking with Grant about Derksen, showing him pictures of Derksen and her family.

Police talk to Grant about the impact of Derksen's death on her family.

"They are still going through a lot of pain because they don't know why. They want to forgive," police say in the video.

Grant remains silent.

During questioning at other points in the video, Grant repeatedly states, "I have nothing to say."

His lawyer is present in the interrogation room and also tells police his client doesn't want to speak.

At one point in the video, Grant looks at officers and says, "If you guys have a case, prove it to me. I don't think you do."

The video shown by the Crown to the jury Wednesday included about 3.5 hours of the 11 hour interrogation.

Near the end of the interrogation, police tell Grant they have a warrant to take his DNA.

Grant shows no reaction, with his head down.

Candace Derksen, 13, disappeared while walking home from school in November 1984. Seven weeks later, her body was found bound and frozen in a shed in Elmwood.

In May 2007, Grant was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for Derksen's death after a cold-case police unit began investigating.

Grant has pleaded not guilty.
