Steinbach RCMP responded to a four-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada highway at Provincial Road 51 just before 7:30 p.m. on June 26.

The accident happened near Richer, east of Ste. Anne.

RCMP said that traffic was slowing to enter a construction zone when a truck traveling at a high speed rear-ended a car. The car hit the trailer of an SUV in front of it. The SUV then hit a van in front of it. Both the SUV and the car caught fire.

RCMP said the 41-year-old woman driving the car suffered serious injuries and was transported to Winnipeg hospital where she is in critical condition.

Passengers of the van were uninjured. The 45-year-old man who was driving the SUV suffered minor injuries. He was sent to local hospital to be treated.

The 32-year-old woman driving the pickup truck, and her passenger, also suffered minor injuries. They were also sent to local hospital to be treated.

RCMP said all of the individuals involved in the accident were from Winnipeg.

Traffic on the highway was rerouted until approximately 4:00 a.m. on Saturday.

RCMP said that alcohol was not a factor in the collision and are continuing to investigate.
