A group of penguins have touched down in the city for an upcoming exhibit at Assiniboine Park Zoo.
The exhibit is set to open May 10. The zoo issued a statement Wednesday.
“The penguins are in good spirits and adapting well to their new surroundings,” said Tim
Sinclair-Smith, director of zoological operations at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. “This is the first time we’ve ever had penguins at the Assiniboine Park Zoo and we hope this will be a real hit with the public.”
The African black-footed penguins arrived Tuesday evening.
Zoo officials said the animals will spend some time adapting to their new surroundings before the exhibit opens to the public on Friday.
Visitors will be able to learn about conservation efforts underway to preserve the future existence of the animals.
The exhibit, named the HUB Horizon Penguin Cove, will run until Sept. 30.
