Winnipeg police said they’ve partnered with the community services department and multiple social service agencies to provide a support and information session. The announcement comes following the deaths of Lisa Gibson, 32, and her two children, who were rushed to hospital but could not be revived.
“As a community, we are trying to come to terms with what took place and we search for answers that may never come. While we cannot change what occurred, we can try to provide some comfort to one another with the hope that time will heal some of our wounds,” said police in a press release.
Gibson’s body was found in the Red River, days after the deaths of her two-year-old daughter and three-month-old son. Police sources said Gibson had been dealing with postpartum depression.
Officers continue to investigate the deaths.
The support session will be held July 31 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Kirkfield-Westwood Community Centre, 165 Sansome Avenue. Members from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Mobile Crisis Unit, Klinic and Manitoba Family Services will be on hand.
“Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to drop in and access information about services available to assist them in dealing with any emotional difficulty they may be experiencing,” said police.
