The Town of Roblin declared a state of emergency as rapid spring melt raised flood worries on Saturday. Mayor Betty Nykyforak told CTV News much of the melt happened in the last 48 hours.
At least six basements in the community are flooded, and other low-lying areas are flooding, Nykyforak said.
A family in one home needed to be evacuated, she said.
The town has blocked off culverts on the edge of town to stop rural water from entering.
The flooding cut off 50 roads outside the town in the RM of Shell River. It has a population on 1,000.
Nykyforak worries about how the flooding might affect fire fighters and paramedic access those homes or how they will be able to get to the hospital in an emergency. The road in front of the ambulance garage IN Roblin was also impassable but has since cleared, she said.
