Winnipeg police have arrested a second suspect who allegedly tried to evade police during a traffic stop earlier this month.

Police said it happened around 9:30 a.m. on July 10 when a patrol car spotted a suspect male in a taxicab in the Redwood Avenue-Powers Street area.

Officers initiated a traffic stop in the 700 block of Redwood Avenue, at which time the suspect ran to a home nearby.

Police said an officer pursued the man and tried to arrest him. Police said the officer was then splashed with hot coffee and pushed down a set of stairs.

Police said the struggle continued and a loaded firearm and a set of handcuffs fell out of a bag that had been around the suspect’s neck. The man then tried to pass a purse to a woman who had arrived at the scene from a nearby home.

The woman was then taken into custody and the man escaped.

Officers said they found crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and a substance believed to be fentanyl inside the purse. The estimated value of all the drugs combined is $11,500.

Lyric Charisse Laye, a 25-year-old woman from Selkirk, was arrested and charged with multiple drug and firearm-related offences. She remains in custody.

On Friday evening around 8:45 p.m., police located Dallas Tyler Friesen, 33, at an apartment building in the 1700 block of Henderson Highway and placed him under arrest.

Friesen had also been wanted for a number of drug trafficking charges and firearm-related charges.

He remains in custody.
