Be prepared to be scanned and checked before taking your seat at Jets games this season.
This year, at the request of the NHL, a total 32 walk-through metal detectors have been added to entrances at MTS Centre.
True North Sports & Entertainment said they do expect lineups at Tuesday night’s preseason game against Minnesota as fans get used to the new routine.
“They need to be prepared as they approach the metal detectors, or it will take time,” said communications coordinator Scott Brown.
“You'll see if you approach the detectors prepared, the process takes seconds. So, we anticipate while people get used to it, there will be line-ups.”
The new security measures have been in place since Sept. 3, and were first used at the Nas concert.
Line-ups were noticeable to get into the Janet Jackson concert on Sept. 8.
“The Janet Jackson line was precipitated by people not approaching the metal detectors ready with keys and phones out and bags ready to be searched,” said Brown. “The true measure comes in a month or so after people have changed their routines and know what to expect."
In Edmonton, Oilers fans said they waited 45 minutes to get into a scrimmage featuring the team's rookies.
To prevent something similar from happening in Winnipeg, doors for Jets games will open 90 minutes before puck drop instead of the usual 60.
