We've already made it to Friday. But we might not make it to the weekend without severe thunderstorms in various parts of Manitoba today or tonight.
An approaching cold front should reach the Saskatchwan/Manitoba border this afternoon. It's expected to trigger thunderstorms today or tonight. By noon, southwestern Manitoba was put under a severe thunderstorm watch.
Should severe thunderstoms develop, hail up to golf ball size is possible. If the storms form in the wam sector ahead of the cold front, we could be dealing with heavy rainfall.
Trouble is, the models aren't agreeing much regarding timing or location. It's possible Winnipeg and the Red River Valley could see thunderstorms by late this afternoon, but the odds are looking much stronger for later tonight.
Also, a cold front could trigger severe thunderstorms today in the northeast.
The weekend in Winnipeg is a mixed bag. It will be sunny and hot on Saturday. Sunday should bring some overdue rain showers. Your lawn will be thankful for the moisture after a long stretch of hot, dry days!
