With concerns over a potential strike by workers at Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, some consumers and businesses alike have stocked up.

On Wednesday, results showed 97 per cent of Manitoba liquor workers voted in favour of potential strike action.

Mitchell Pryzbilla wanted to make sure his bar was stocked come Christmas. So, he spent more than $100 on booze Thursday afternoon.

"I mostly bought hard alcohol - just rum and whiskey and stuff," he said, while struggling with two loaded brown paper bags.

He’s not alone. Winnipeg businesses are also preemptively ordering extra to make sure they make it through the holidays with a full top shelf.

Earls on Main has their stock room packed to the rafters with seven times more wine and hard liquor as well as four times more beer than usual.

"We wanted to make sure we had enough to cover the main holidays and have nobody notice the impact there," said Sabrina Kelly the day manager at the restaurant.

Meanwhile, negotiations continued between the Manitoba Government and The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union Thursday.

The next steps are expected to be announced Friday.
