Stony Mountain Institution was put into lockdown Thursday afternoon with corrections officers searching the prison for contraband items.
Officials would not say specifically what type of items they were looking for, or whether they were drugs or weapons.
CTV News was told no injuries were reported and that the lockdown was not the result of a fight or riot.
All visits to the prison have been cancelled during the lockdown. It was not clear Thursday afternoon when the facility would be back to normal.
