Target stores in Winnipeg officially shut their doors Sunday.

Signs at the Kildonan Place location told shoppers the only items still available for purchase were store fixtures by appointment only.

The retail giant has been winding down operations since January, when it announced it will pull out of Canada completely.

The move came less than two years after Target opened its first store north of the border.

In total, 133 stores are affected, leaving more than 17,000 people out of a job.
