A 15-year-old Winnipeg boy is charged with assault with a weapon for an incident in November.

He's accused of using anti-Semitic slurs towards a classmate and then trying to light her hair on fire.

It stems from an incident on Nov. 18.

Officials at Oak Park High School say the alleged victim told a school counsellor about it three days later.

Police and school officials say the girl's hair was singed by a lighter.

The 14-year-old girl, who is Jewish, was not hurt and has returned to school.

Manitoba Justice is reviewing the case to see if hate-crime charges will be laid.

The 15-year-old suspect is also accused of posting anti-Semitic comments on a social media website.
