Winnipeg could be one of the next Canadian cities to play host to an outdoor National Hockey League game.
True North Sports and Entertainment has confirmed they are in talks with the league to play host to the Heritage Classic in 2016.
The game would be played at Investor’s Group Field between the Winnipeg Jets and a yet to be determined opponent.
True North says both parties are very interested in hosting the event in Winnipeg.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will play the Detroit Red Wings, at the University of Michigan football stadium, in next season’s Outdoor Classic, which is what the league calls outdoor games played in the United States.
Canadian cities have twice hosted outdoor games called The Heritage Classic. The first was in Edmonton and the second in Calgary.
CTVBC reports Vancouver’s BC Place and the Vancouver Canucks are in negotiations with the league to host The Heritage Classic in 2014.
