Winnipeg’s Deputy Police Chief Dave Thorne is retiring after 35 years of service.

The Winnipeg Police Service made the announcement Monday.

Thorne has been a member of the WPS since 1981, and was promoted to Deputy Chief in November of 2013. He is responsible for police operations including uniform operations, operational support and investigation branches.

He previously worked in criminal investigations specializing in commercial crime, robbery, child abuse and homicide. Thorne is also a former forensic polygraph examiner and superintendent of uniform operations.

This comes as the WPS begins its search for a new police chief, after outgoing chief Devon Clunis announced his retirement in March.
