Winnipeggers heading out to New Year’s Eve parties will want to bundle up – frigid temperatures are settling in for the night.

Monday will be mainly sunny with a forecast high of -20 C. The wind chill will bring temperatures down to a frigid -35 C. Environment Canada warns skin can freeze within 10 to 30 minutes at those temperatures and recommends covering exposed skin.

Temperatures are expected to dip to -25 C overnight.

The city will warm up substantially on New Year's Day, when a more seasonal high of -12 C is forecast. Flurries are also expected in the early evening Tuesday.
