A Winnipeg man has died after a major crash near Wood Buffalo, Alta. Saturday.

RCMP believe a transport truck headed south on Highway 63 near Fort McKay drove over the centre line and collided head-on with a northbound truck carrying an oversize load.

The driver of the southbound truck, a 38-year-old Winnipeg man, died as a result of the crash, RCMP said.

Poor weather and bad road conditions were a factor in the fatal crash, said RCMP.

The crash forced officers to close the highway for over a day while they investigated.

RCMP have not determined what caused the crash and will not be releasing the name of the man who died.
