Winnipeg police announced Friday that Supt. Gord Perrier has been appointed as the city’s new deputy chief of operations.
This comes two weeks after former Deputy Chief Dave Thorne retired after 35 years with the service.
Perrier has worked for the Winnipeg police since 1992, starting out as a special constable with the forensics unit.
Throughout his years with the service, he was an investigator within the criminal investigations unit. In this role, he was a court-recognized expert in money laundering and the illegal packaging of currency.
He was also the founding director of the Winnipeg’s Child Advocacy Centre, a non-profit corporation that works with a number of government agencies to gather evidence in support of child maltreatment prosecutions.
In October 2013, he was promoted to superintendent, overseeing the human resources support branch, before taking on his current role as deputy chief.
It was in March that outgoing chief Devon Clunis also announced his retirement from the force.
