The husband of the woman accused of concealing the remains of six infants in a storage locker took the stand telling the court his wife had anywhere from nine to 11 abortions and some miscarriages.

Andrea Giesbrecht's husband Jeremy was cross-examined by defense counsel Wednesday.

His testimony was delayed this past July over questions of spousal privilege.

Jeremy Giesbrecht's lawyer told the court he had previously testified without knowing what the privilege was. After speaking with his lawyer, she told the court Jeremy was prepared to answer, but not willing to waive the privilege completely.

The judge called him back to the stand anyway, saying if he invoked spousal privilege during questioning, he would hear oral arguments from both crown and defense. Regardless, Jeremy didn't invoke the privilege during his time on the stand.

Jeremy testified that he had a vasectomy in 2011, but hadn't checked with his doctor to ensure it had been successful. He said he knew Andrea had become pregnant after the procedure.

"I was aware of them,” he told the court.

Jeremy told the court Andrea had nine, 10 or 11 abortions and some miscarriages. He also said there was no unhappiness over their decision not to have more children.

He also testified he was aware Andrea rented a storage locker, but he thought it was filled with her father’s things.

Jeremy also said he may have seen a bill from U-Haul, but said he couldn’t be sure.

Andrea Giesbrecht was arrested in October 2014 after the remains of six infants were found in plastic containers in a U-Haul storage locker she had rented.

The remains were discovered by employees of the storage company after fees went unpaid on the locker where they had been kept.

Andrea Giesbrecht has pleaded not guilty to six counts of storing infant remains.

She will not take the stand, and defense counsel did not call any witnesses.

Closing arguments will take place Friday.
