Manitoba has issued boil water warnings to three communities this August, and renewed a long-term water quality advisory to a Hutterite colony.

The province has placed West Hawk Lake, Norway House, near Carman, Manitoba on a boil water advisory. It has also renewed a long-term water quality advisory to Hidden Valley Hutterite Colony near Austin, Manitoba.

Stephenfield Provincial Park was under a boil water advisory. It was lifted on Aug. 3.

The most recent warning to boil water before drinking or cooking is for 500 to 1,000 cottage owners and campers at West Hawk Lake in eastern Manitoba.

Bruce Morrison, South Whiteshell Fire Chief, told CTV News there was a “tainted” water sample earlier this week.

Representatives of Manitoba Sustainable Development have been going door-to-door and putting up notices around public sources of water, Morrison said.

He said the advisory is not mandatory and just precautionary.

In an e-mail on Sunday, Manitoba government said the system services the campground, seasonal trailer village, cottages and about four to five businesses.

It said everyone on the system was notified Saturday night.

The boil water advisory is noted as short term for the time frame to resolve the issue.
