Proposed funding cuts to hours at pools and other budget measures have been reversed at city hall.

Council gave final approval to the budget in a 14-2 vote with some last-minute changes.

A total of $100,000 will be restored to the pools budget to keep more hours and market the facilities to the public to increase usage.

The plan to eliminate flower planting downtown was quashed and a new fee for patios was also turfed.

The reversals come less than a week after Mayor Bowman and his EPC team voted for the budget.

The reductions for summer and fall street sweeping remain in effect.

Other budget measures include a 2.3 per cent property tax hike and a modest frontage levy increase.

Most of the tax hike will go towards crumbling roads.

Homeowners will also pay $5 more per year for garbage and recycling.

The budget also adds a one-time bus fare hike of 5 cents and slight property tax increase every year to complete the first line of rapid transit.
