Decembeard is back. Festival du Voyageur launched its 33rd annual beard growing contest.
Several men got their faces shaved on Thursday, but by the time festival hits in February, they might be unrecognizable.
Registered contestants will let their beards grow until Feb. 20 and they're asked to raise funds for the heart and stroke foundation.
"Beard growing contest is great to see, you know, people really embracing their beards,” said Irina Ivanov Bissonnetteof Festival du Voyageur. “It's also a great way to keep warm during the winter. So definitely we're hoping to see a lot more people this year. Last year we had over 60 participants and hopefully this year we'll have even more."
Other categories include novelty, for best groomed beard or mustache, and open, where anyone can make their own beard.
