Winnipeg police have arrested a 29-year-old Steinbach man who had stolen identity documents, break-in instruments, and methamphetamine in his possession early Friday morning.

Officers said they came across a suspicious man and woman who were on their bikes at around 4:30 a.m. near St. Anne’s Road and Bishop Grandin Boulevard.

The man initially provided a fake name but was later identified to be the subject of an arrest warrant, police said.

Officers said they found a small quantity of methamphetamine in the man’s possession, along with break-in instruments, stolen identity documents, and financial cards. A stolen bike was also recovered by police.

The investigation then led officers to the 700 block of St. Mary’s Road where they discovered a truck that had been stolen nearby on July 13. The vehicle had an out-of-province license plate that had been stolen from another vehicle on Alpine Avenue, officers said.

Eric Wesley Allan was arrested and charged with a number of offences including identity fraud.

He remains in custody.
