The Salvation Army holds an English Café every Tuesday night for immigrants and refugees in Winnipeg.
Children and adults are invited to the Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre to practice English and learn about Canadian culture.
Volunteers help between 20 and 30 newcomers with language, homework and reading for citizenship or driver’s license tests.
Participants come from different countries to Canada as immigrants and refugees.
"People come here not just to learn English, they come here… learning about Canadian culture. They want to make new friends in this country. They want to get more information," said English Café Volunteer Coordinator Hurmat Habib.
Volunteers include high school students, retired teachers and members of Frontier College, Steinbach Bible College, Morrow Gospel Church and Living Hope Community Church.
