Firefighters are on scene at a home that is engulfed in flames in the community of Bridgwater Lakes.

Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, crews responded to a fire at the house on Rose Garden Crescent.

Abdul Yusuf’s family of five lives in the home. He said the fire started in the attached garage.

According to Yusuf, the family noticed their Pontiac Grand Prix was on fire, so they ran out of the house. He said the car was not plugged in.

"It was coming from the garage and we opened the garage and there was big flame I took my wife and sister and immediately came out of the house,” he said.

The fire forced residents of neighbouring homes to evacuate.

Fire crews said there were no injuries. No word yet on the extent of the damage.

Yusuf tells CTV News that all the family’s immigration documents, passports and some cash are in the home.

"I am feeling very sad, I had plenty of important things inside, I had money and everything,” he said.
