A memorial service will be taking place today for two-year-old Chase Martens.

Family members say a memorial service for Chase will be held at the MacGregor Sommerfeld Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

A wake and burial will follow later in the week in Grand Rapids, Manitoba.

RCMP say it appears the toddler wandered away from his yard near Austin, Manitoba last Tuesday evening. His body was discovered five days later in a creek about half a kilometre from his home.

An autopsy determined that he died of drowning.

Chase’s disappearance prompted an exhaustive and agonizing five-day search with a tragic ending.

RCMP officers say the investigation is ongoing, but there are no signs and foul play and the toddler’s death is not suspicious.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral costs and travel expenses. It has already raised about $5,500.
