A memorial was held at the Manitoba legislature Thursday morning to honour female victims of violence.
The sunrise ceremony took place at 8 a.m. at the legislative rotunda and marked the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) organized the event, which started with a walk to the legislative building.
December 6 marks the day 14 women were murdered at Montreal’s École Polytechnique in 1989 and was designated a national day of remembrance in 1991.
Before the memorial at the legislature, a candelight vigil and walk were held in support of victims of violence.
