A suspect stabbed a 30-year-old mom and stole her vehicle in the first 100 block of Marbury Road in The Maples on Jan. 15, said Winnipeg police.

The woman managed to get her seven-year-old daughter safely out of the vehicle before the suspect drove off.

Around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, the woman had placed her child in the vehicle and started sweeping snow off the car when an unknown male came up and demanded the keys.

The woman refused and the suspect pulled out a knife, stabbing the woman in the lower body, said Winnipeg police.

"Fortunately, it was non-life threatening injuries she received, but the suspect was able to get the keys from her. Prior to driving off, the victim was able to retrieve her child, who was unharmed,” said Const. Eric Hofley from Winnipeg police.

A friend of the mother said the woman was shaken up and needed stitches for her leg.

The car was last spotted heading southbound on Marbury.

The woman's purse with all of her identification and her daughter’s school bag were also in the car when the suspect drove off.

Her daughter, Komalpreet Kaur, hasn't left the house since the incident.

Police said the suspect is described as approximately 40 years old, tall and with a skinny build with a small moustache and off unknown race. He had a white jacket on, possibly with yellow and other colours.

The stolen vehicle is described as a 1998 green four-door Honda Accord, bearing Manitoba licence plate GMX 393.
