One person died after a fiery two-vehicle collision that closed Highway 6 north of Woodlands.

RCMP said it happened around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

A northbound car crossed into the southbound lane and crashed into a pickup truck near the intersection of Road 86N, RCMP said. Both vehicles burst into flames after the impact.

The driver and only occupant of the car died at the scene.

Passers-by pulled the driver of the truck to safety. STARS airlifted the driver to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway reopened around 6:50 p.m. the same day.

Police have not determined the identity of the dead driver. The crash is still under investigation.

On Monday, a fatal crash closed down part of the same highway.
