‘Tis the season for holiday parties and along with that, holiday checkstops.

"(It) makes people aware that they shouldn't drink and drive and I think it's a good thing,” said driver Ed Crzerda.

Winnipeg police braved the cold out in Transcona Saturday night to check for impaired drivers and spread awareness about safe driving. They checked more than 100 cars, and handed out no infractions.

An officer CTV spoke to credits social media with helping get the word out.

“The more that we can get it to the public that we're out here, it's 24 below tonight, 35 below wind chill tonight, and we're still out here,” said patrol Sgt. Lou Malo. “So, we want to give the message, and they're helping us, don't drink and drive, because no matter what it's like, we're out here, we're waiting.”

The checkstop bus will be out every night this month. Police said they will also be publishing the names of people charged with impaired driving.
