Owners of a Winnipeg hotel and bar are cleaning up after a massive water main break.

Water gushed from underneath the sidewalk beside the Fox & Hounds Tavern on Portage Avenue.

The water filled the basement of the hotel and damaged the building’s restaurant.

Damage is estimated to be more than $25,000. The hotel’s bar was closed down and employees were sent home for the day.

“The hotel itself is ready to go except for the cleanup, quite a mess in the basement, also in our parking lot, a lot of mud,” said Fox & Hounds owner Lawrence Maksymetz.

But the hotel owners weren’t the only ones impacted by the break.

Water flowed down the on-ramp to Route 90, forcing police to block off the southbound lanes at Ness Avenue.  Traffic was rerouted onto Ness.
