Steinbach's first Pride Parade may be allowed to happen on city streets.

The RCMP said Wednesday it is reassessing the parade's request to use roadways.

An initial permit was declined for safety reasons.

However, the RCMP said it is working with organizers to find an alternate, safer route.

Officers will be there to ensure safety for both the parade and participants.

Police will walk alongside parade participants on July 9.

The RCMP said it fully supports the LGBTQ community and the Steinbach Pride Parade.
