A sentencing hearing has been reopened for a Gull Lake couple convicted of abusing several dogs.

More than 60 dogs were seized from Peter and Judy Cherneckiin 2010. Almost all of them were kept in a 672-square-foot house with poor lighting, little air, inadequate food, and dirty drinking water.

The couple was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday. The sentencing has been ajourned until later this month so the defense can examine new information provided by prosecutors.

It contains a decision from a recent cattle abuse case where the owner got 45 days in jail.

The crown wants Peter Chernecki to serve four months behind bars, but Chernecki 's lawyer is seeking probation.
