CTV News has obtained police audio recordings of the night a suspect was shot in the back. Two Winnipeg constables are currently on trial in connection with the case.

On Thursday court heard a recording from the police communications centre of a police pursuit leading up to the shooting.

Their cruiser was travelling up to 90 km per hour when dispatch told them to back off the chase. But an investigator testified GPS showed the officers actually sped up after they were ordered to slow down.

The crown said the officers then chased the suspect on foot, despite instructions to stop because a canine unit was on scene.

Kristofer Fournier was unarmed when he was shot in the buttocks. Kristopher Overwater and Darrel Selley are charged with attempting to obstruct justice.Selley is charged with attempted murder.
