The province’s hydrological forecasting centre issued a severe wind warning for the south basins of Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg on Tuesday.

“Northwest winds are forecast to increase throughout the day up to 50 to 65 km/h into Wednesday afternoon,” said the province. “Wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as five feet or greater along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and on the south shore of Lake Manitoba. In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.”

The province urged property owners to take precautions and said a map of areas involved is available online.
