While staff and volunteers at Siloam Mission are busy preparing for Thanksgiving, some help is still needed to fill plates.

The shelter expects to welcome more than 1,200 guests – triple the number it serves on a regular day – for its Thanksgiving feast on Monday.

The kitchen will cook 125 turkeys, mash hundreds of pounds of potatoes and prepare more than 100 litres of gravy.

But there are still a few things its needs to make sure the feast has all the fixings.

Siloam is looking for donations of frozen mixed vegetables, cabbage and carrots for the coleslaw and dainties for an extra treat.

Donations can be dropped off at the mission's Princess Street location.
