RCMP are looking for a missing snowmobiler that could have been sledding near the Assiniboine River.
On Sunday around 8 p.m., police received a report of a missing 62-year-old man from the RM of St. Francois Xavier. Their investigation revealed the man’s snowmobile was also missing.
According to police, the man was known to snowmobile near the Assiniboine River, and a search of the area revealed a hole in the ice – which was thin at the time the male went missing.
An underwater recovery team conducted a dive in the area. However, RCMP said due to strong river currents, they are unable to continue a search of the water for safety reasons.
The investigation is ongoing.
