Sources suggest city forced CAO Sheegl to leave job

Winnipeg’s CAO may not have left on his own terms.

On Thursday, Phil Sheegl tendered his resignation just days before the release of a controversial fire hall audit.

Sources tell CTV the mayor’s executive policy committee forced Sheegl out.

The sources said Sheegl may have received more than $240,000 in severance to walk away.

No one from EPC was commenting Friday.

The mayor has said publicly he does not know why Sheegl resigned.

The audit into cost overruns and a questionable land deal involving four fire halls comes out Monday.
