A radio DJ who last week was the subject of a missing persons report by the Winnipeg Police Service is now facing sexual assault and possession of child pornography charges.
Chris Elwick, who used the name “Shecky” on radio, went missing Tuesday and on Friday police issued a request for public assistance to locate him.
Police said the 32-year-old was located Saturday in Portage la Prairie.
Elwick had his first court appearance Monday morning in Winnipeg on charges of sexual assault of a person under 16, sexual interference of a person under 16 and possessing child pornography.
The sexual assault and interference charges stem from incidents alleged to have taken place in 2009 and 2010.
Elwick is presumed innocent and the case remains before the courts.
He was granted bail on Monday, with a number of conditions, including not having contact with the alleged victim.
He cannot be in the presence of children under 16 years of age unless in the company of a responsible adult.
He is also not permitted to be within 200 metres of a day care, park, school community centre, playground or pool and he may not own or possess any electronic device capable of accessing the Internet or capturing still images or videos.
His next court appearance is Nov. 3, 2014.
Scouts Canada confirmed Tuesday that Chris Elwick was also previously a Scout leader for four years, ending in 2009. He passed all criminal record checks and nothing he did in his capacity with the organization raised any concerns, said John Pettiti, executive director of Scouts Canada.
Scouts Canada still contacted the Winnipeg Police Service Monday and offered to turn over any documentation related to Elwick's time with Scouts Canada.
