Thousands of pigs perish in barn fire

RCMP said a barn fire Friday killed thousands of hogs in the RM of Ste. Anne.

Around 12:45 p.m., crews responded to a fire approximately five kilometres south of Highway 1 on Highway 12.

It’s believed there were approximately 3,000 hogs in the barn.

“It appears all the hogs perished in the fire. The cause of the fire is undetermined,” said RCMP in a release.

Crews also responded to a grass fire about 1.5 km south of Steinbach on Road 32 East on Friday around 1 p.m.

Approximately 15 homes were evacuated but everyone was later allowed to return after the fire was put out by 3:30 p.m.
