Kids in three Winnipeg neighbourhoods will have another way to cool off on hot summer days next year when the city opens three spray pads, city and provincial officials announced Friday.
The spray pads will be built at Waverley Heights Community Centre, Gateway Recreation Centre, and Lindsey Wilson Park in Island Lakes. The provincial government is putting up $1.5 million and the city will cover the operating costs of each of the pads.
“Parks and playgrounds provide safe places for children and families to gather. These new facilities will also be an exciting and attractive asset to their communities,” said Local Government Minister Ron Lemieux in a news release.
"The Island Lakes community is thrilled that we could partner with the province to make this spray pad a reality," said Coun. Dan Vandal, councillor (St. Boniface). "It will provide generations with a place to play and have fun that is located close to home."
Construction of the three new spray pads is expected to begin in the spring of 2014.
