Portage Avenue was briefly closed in both directions Tuesday afternoon as firefighters doused a van on fire on the median near Carleton Street.
Winnipeg police said the call came in around 12:50 and that traffic was stopped until about 1:20.
A witness told CTV News that the van caught fire while travelling eastbound on Portage Avenue and the driver maneuvered onto the median before escaping the burning vehicle.
According to police, there were no injuries.
The van was completely destroyed.
