Two people died after a truck driving the wrong way down the Trans-Canada Highway crashed head-on with a minivan going the other way.
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called out around 8:10 p.m. after they got a report about a pickup truck driving at high speed the wrong way near MacGregor.
The officers headed west, looking for the eastbound truck, and found it had collided with the minivan about one kilometre east of MacGregor.
The 63-year-old man driving the truck and the 29-year-old man driving the van both died at the scene. Both men are from MacGregor.
Police said both drivers were wearing seatbelts and it’s unknown if alcohol played a role.
Police closed the westbound lane of Highway 1 Friday night while they investigated. A forensic collision reconstructionist is helping RCMP with the investigation.
